Six Songs on poems by Federico García Lorca (2012)

for Baritone & Piano

The poetry of Federico García Lorca is filled with extreme passions and a rich sensitivity, always very close to the roots of human soul, and yet at the same time reaching the highest degrees of spirituality. One of its main characteristics is to combine earthy images, that are in direct relationship with the senses and the harsh simplicity of life, with a complex and ambivalent emotional content that reaches far beyond the realm of language and images. It makes his poetry the ideal material to set to music. The song cycle ‘Deseo’ for baritone and piano is composed on a selection of six poems by Lorca, grouped together so as to create a conversation between them through a web of common themes, such as: night, desire, nature, water, loss, ecstasy, etc.
